Why do plants need a CO2 KIT in the aquarium?

When operating an aquarium or aquascape, the level of carbon dioxide is crucial.

It is one of the key players in the photosynthesis process, where carbon dioxide is crucial for plant stability and growth. Aquariums have very low CO2 levels, so one needs to buy CO2 kits to make up for the low CO2 ratio. Utilizing these kits will enable you to raise your CO2 levels and offer the plants with what they require. You must be very attentive while selecting the proper model because the kits vary depending on the size and shape of the aquariums.

What is an aquarium CO2 system?

Carbon dioxide is injected into the water in the tank by a CO2 system. Because of the increased access to carbon dioxide provided by this, a wider variety of live plants for aquariums can flourish in the tank.

CO2 System: 3 Essential Components

CO2 Cylinder

The metal container is used to hold compressed carbon dioxide. It has different sizes. At a reasonable injection rate, a 5-pound cylinder lasts about 3–4 months in a 40-gallon aquarium tank. For 40-gallon tanks, the monthly cost of a complete aquarium CO2 kit should be less than $5 USD.

Regulator

This mechanism regulates the discharge of CO2 gas from the cylinder. The regulator releases CO2 when electricity is delivered to the solenoid, which is connected to an electrical outlet. The solenoid is only an “on/off” valve by itself and only operates when the power source is turned on. A needle valve regulates the release of CO2 gas at a specific flow rate.

Usually, there are 2 pressure gauges. The one with the greater PSI markings displays the cylinder’s internal pressure, while the other displays its output pressure. The internal pressure indicates whether the cylinder is full or empty.

Diffusion Device (In tank diffusers, inline-diffusers, reactors)

The outflow tubing from the regulator is often connected to a bubble counter, which calculates the rate of CO2 flow into the tank. the tube that joins to one of two paths on a diffusion device. The complete aquarium CO2 kit tubing from the regulator can feed into an internal diffuser or atomizer that is built into the tank, or it can feed into an external inline diffuser or atomizer that is attached to the filter’s outflow tube or pipe and follows the water’s path back into the tank.

Use of an inline atomizer or reactor is advised (more efficient but also far more complicated to tune correctly). Both are situated along the filter outflow line, which lessens the number of objects that are kept inside the tank (this is preferred by aquascapers, as it makes for better visuals: less intrusive background equipment parts).

What is required to set up a complete aquarium CO2 kit?

Things required to begin CO2 injection:

CO2 bottle – There are many different sizes available for CO2 bottles.

Regulator – A CO2 regulator is used to first inject carbon dioxide.

Solenoids -We are huge fans of solenoids.

Bubble Counter – The rate of CO2 entering your aquarium can be observed with a bubble counter.

About ABC Plants

In spite of lockdowns, curfews, shipping backlogs, and international competitors entering Canada, our little company has continued to grow, and we have been astounded by the devotion and support of our clients. We are grateful to everyone who has supported us, and we intend to keep doing so for as long as the Canadian fishkeeping community needs us.
