Make Your Room Look Bigger

Having a small room can be frustrating, especially if you need more space to store things or want to fit in furniture that will comfortably seat more people. However, there are plenty of ways to make your luxury room look bigger than it really is, so you can still make the most of it and increase your storage space. Here are some quick fixes to make your room look bigger in no time!

Paint Color

Every wall in your house has a color on it, but chances are, you haven’t really thought about how much your choice affects the way a room feels. Color can make a space feel airy and light or small and closed off, so experiment with different shades until you find one that’s right for you.

If you’re looking for an instant—but temporary—fix, try filling one wall with artwork or photos. This instantly makes a small room look bigger by distracting from (and visually separating) all of those hard walls.

Window Treatment

The first thing that you can do to make your room look bigger is install a window treatment. This will make your windows appear larger, giving your room a more open and airy look. You could choose curtains or roman shades, depending on what type of style you are going for. You can always go with blinds but they’re generally not used as window treatments since they won’t cover up as much light.

Mirrors

If your room feels too small, try adding mirrors. There are a few ways you can do so to maximize its effect and create a more spacious environment for yourself. Mirrors can actually make a room appear 15% larger than it really is, but be sure that you don’t go overboard—too many mirrors can have an opposite effect.

One of our favorite tricks is to hang large floor-length mirrors near one wall or across from each other on opposing walls; they’ll trick your eyes into thinking there’s extra space because they’re reflecting each other.

Furniture Placement

If you’re struggling with making your home look bigger, a quick and easy way to do it is by simply moving around some of your furniture. Often people will have oversized pieces of furniture in their living room, but can easily make that room look smaller than it actually is by placing those big pieces of furniture in corners or against walls.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive space-saver, try repainting one wall in a bold color that draws attention from all angles. Remember: The key is to create depth and angles within your room so that there’s no space behind any piece of furniture—only more space.

Lighting

Track lighting, candles and mirrors all make a room appear more spacious. A simple mirror placed above your dresser can be very effective at making your bedroom look bigger, as can hanging artwork above your bed. Candles also help make rooms feel larger; just keep them on nightstands or a mantelpiece instead of placing them on a tabletop or countertop so they don’t make you feel hemmed in.
