On Thursday (May 12), the England and Wales Cricket Board announced the appointment of McCullum as their next Test coach. England Test team gets new coach after new captain (Ben Stokes).

McCullum is set to start a new chapter with England’s new Test captain Ben Stokes. England have slipped far behind in the ICC Test rankings after losing the Ashes to Australia and the Test series to the West Indies.

McCullum was tasked with bringing back the lost glory of the England team.

McCullum also spoke about his future as coach of England, as well as the challenges he faces. The former New Zealand captain said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to make a positive impact on England’s Test setup and to take the team forward. “I know the team is going through a lot of challenges at the moment and I am confident that I will be able to move England forward.”

McCullum has played 101 Tests for New Zealand. Coincidentally, McCullum will start his career as a coach in international cricket against his country.

England will play a three-match Test series against New Zealand at Lord’s on June 2. This series will be his journey as England coach. McCullum said he was also looking forward to working with new England captain Stokes.
