The Alliance for Encryption in Latin American and Caribbean (AC-LAC) was created last year by 25 organizations stablished in various countries, representing a multistakeholder digital ecosystem. With the mission on establish a platform for collective capacity building and knowledge in Latin American and Caribbean on cryptography as an indispensable tool for security and respect for human and fundamental rights.

The director´s Andres Sastre of AC-LAC explain “move forward with a proactive agenda to promote and defend cryptography in LATAM and Caribbean that strengthens and manages an ecosystem of trust, security and stability”

The AC-LAC´s mission include collaborate with cybersecurity to preserve the benefits and principles of encryption, as well as privacy. For that reason, IFGICT will joining the participation with AC-LAC. IFGICT create a cybersecurity standard that can help to guarantee the privacy communications and obviously including the cryptography.

“IFGICT want to participate with different stakeholder to express the importance of network and data centers security to improve the communication privacy. Actually the communication between person to person or person to companies are trough digital media such as emails, voice and video conference applications. Define a cybersecurity actions will permit guarantee privacy and human rights” said Gerardo Mantilla, IFGICT Latam Officer.

Working with AC-LAC and their members can improve the message efficiencies about privacy and security requirements in a world more connected by digital technologies. According with foundational principles of AC-LAC, “Even in an encryption context, we must look smart way to address legitimate security and law enforcement concerns, preventing certain actors from making pernicious or harmful use.”

Main objective is contributing to stronger and better online rights and security for users.  “To do that is necessary to coordinate efforts with different global, regional and national initiatives, generating space for exchange and mobilization in the fact of the impact of the weakening of encryption on rights and security.” Comment Andres Sastre.

Most of companies especially information technology and telecommunication have a reference to develop standardization for cybersecurity. However, each company follow a specific protocol to apply on their clients and develop their cybersecurity actions. The cybersecurity standard development by IFGICT is the only standard which can be adapted by different companies.

IFGICT count with different companies who will be participating with their standards even big tech companies such as Microsoft, HP, IBM, Dell, Oracle and others. Cybersecurity threats has no nationality or citizenship which means it can attack any place at any time. Big, medium or small companies.
