Opposition Socialist Party (SJP) MPs have decided to take charge of the Sri Lankan government. However, the party demanded that Gotabaya Rajapaksa resign as president.

He said a majority of MPs had suggested that the party should take charge of the government only when the incumbent president resigns.
Meanwhile, SJB leader Sajith Premadasa said in a tweet that his party was ready to take on any responsibility in Sri Lanka. However, they are not willing to be associated with any of the parties causing the crisis.
