5 Classic Anime Series

Cowboy Bebop

We believe that ‘Space Western’ should be one of the most overlooked genres. It blends the fantasy and futurism of space with westerns’ grit and bravado. Cowboy Bebop is a great example of the space western genre. The story takes place in 2072 when humanity colonized various planets and moons around the galaxy.

The authorities keep the peace by employing bounty hunters, known as ‘Cowboys,’ and the crew that flies in the Bebop spaceship is made up of Spike Spiegel (Jet Black), Win, Faye Valentine, and Edward Wong. This series has it all: the soundtrack, the characters, the humor, and the animation. Animixplay offers this series for free.

When you think about the enormous impact the anime series had, it’s difficult to believe that Cowboy Bebop lasted only 26 episodes over two years. It is responsible for introducing many people to the wonderful world of Japanese animation. It was first aired in Japan from 1998-1999, and then the Adult Swim channel acquired it for the USA in 2001. This led to huge crossover success, and many anime fans around the world embraced Cowboy Bebop as a true classic.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Two Fullmetal Alchemist anime series exist. One is the original Fullmetal Alchemist, which was released in 2000. The other, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, was released in 2010. Both are worth the effort, but we prefer the second one. Both are based on manga of the exact same name. However, the older Fullmetal Alchemist was created before the manga ended. It took more liberties with the storyline. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a more faithful Anime version and we think it’s better.

The story is written by Hiroshi Onogi and directed and produced by YasuhiroIrie. It spans 64 episodes and is an absolute joy to watch. The story centers on two brothers, Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric, and their quest to find the Philosopher’s Stone. They hope that the stone will bring back their bodies, which they lost in an attempt to bring back their mother with alchemy. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood explores the universal themes of grief and loss in a fun and exciting way.

Dragon Ball Z

Okay, so the Dragon Ball Z anime series is the one to watch. However, there’s more to Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Z is Dragon Ball Z, but it became so popular that many people think it’s Dragon Ball. It became so popular that almost everyone in our culture knows the name of Goku (or what they look like). Toei Animation has made a small fortune from it.

Based on Akira Toriyama’s original manga, Dragon Ball Z is five years after the original series. Goku is now a young man, married with a child and trying to live a peaceful life. Things don’t always go as planned. They quickly turn into frenetic violence and high-energy battles. We think Dragon Ball is a great place to start. There are many Dragon Ball movies, anime, and video games.

Hunter x Hunter

This series is relatively new on the list, having been produced by the Madhouse Studio. It was directed by Hiroshi Kojima. It aired in Japan from 2011 to 2014. In the US, it aired in 2016. It produced 148 episodes during its run. This is the second Hunter x Hunter series. The first was aired in 1999.

The interesting thing about this reboot is that it did not just continue from the original, but rather retold the story from the beginning of the original manga to make it more faithful. Hunter X Hunter is easily available on Syncler and many OTT platforms.

The story is about Gon Freecss, a 12-year-old boy who sets out to become a Hunter. Hunters are skilled at locating criminals and treasures in this world. To join this elite group, you must be certified. Gon joined the Hunters not just because he wanted to be a Hunter. His father, whom he believed was dead, is actually a legendary Hunter named Ging. Gon experiences many adventures, including making friends, defeating monsters, and finally finding himself.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion has been hailed as a great example of the mecha anime style and anime itself. The series aired from 1995 to 1996 in Japan and was very popular right up until the end when things got a bit controversial. Many viewers felt that the last two episodes did not make sense and didn’t finish the story. This was a very true story. Hideaki Anno, the creator of the show, made a supplemental animation film called The End of Evangelion that provided the closure and context that fans needed.

It’s a very unusual story. Angels, the evil enemy of humanity in post-apocalyptic Japan are wreaking havoc on humanity and destroying it. Evangelions, giant humanoid robots controlled by humans who enter them, are the only weapon that can fight off these angels. Shinji Ikari, a teenage pilot of one of these robots is the focus of the story. Neon Genesis Evangelion may look like a mecha anime. But it’s actually a thoughtful examination of what it means for a human to be human, and the loneliness it can bring.
