Exploring the world by boat might be just a meh thought for many people, but it’s heaven for true enthusiasts. If you’re dreaming of idyllic waters and relaxing getaways, you’re probably one of those who would live in a boat. And there’s nothing wrong with enjoying life in a watercraft. In fact, we can only congratulate you on your passion. Boating is an excellent opportunity for admiring stunning landscapes, hiking, snorkeling, photography, escaping from everyday life, and exploring onshore. So, you inevitably seek locations that promise this kind of experience. That’s why we’ve come up with some ideas of intriguing destinations that, we hope so, will offer what you’ve long been craving.

Here’s our rolling list!

Costa Smeralda, Sardinia, Italy

If you’re seeking an authentic coastline experience with breathtaking sights and luxurious marinas, Costa Smeralda is just the perfect place for you. Some of the most popular attractions that shouldn’t be missed include the rock formations of Capo Testa, the marina grottoes of Cala Gonone, and the small islands of the Maddalena Archipelago. You can take your sailboat, speed boat, or – why not – yacht out and explore the romantic Italian onshore. Sardinia is one of Italy’s top-rated destinations, and there’s no wonder why; apart from sparkling beaches and waters, the Mediterranean island blows away visitors with several scenic spots, including Valley of Nuraghi, Arzachena Prehistoric Sites, Castelsardo, and Sassari. You can explore this part of the world with your family, friends, or alone, depending on how you perceive this Sardinian experience.

Agia Roumeli, Greece

The Mediterranean Sea is home to legendary waters, the subject of debate in many of the world’s great literary works. In Greece, for example, boating has been a part of the country’s culture since prehistoric times. With 6,000 islands and islets, of which 227 are inhabited, Greece is one of the most visited sailing destinations. And there’s much more than Corfu, Athens, Meteora, Santorini, and Zakynthos; there’s a luring location – Agia Roumeli – not many know about. This destination is more than just the end of Samaria, and true boating lovers are well aware of this fact.

Agia Roumeli is a small yet fascinating village situated on Crete’s south side. With majestic rocks and cliffs guarding the beach’s western end, this place lures thousands of visitors every year, including boating lovers and snorkelers. However, if you plan to explore this little piece of heaven, it would help to know that it’s most easily reachable by boat. Although it’s technically possible to access Agia Roumeli by hiking, it’d be much more exhausting.

If you live nearby, in Hora Sfakion, you can take a ferry or your own boat to get there. But before embarking, ensure your outboard motor is ideal for your boat and this type of transition. Crucial things to have in mind when choosing a watercraft engine include its output, stroke, power generation, and weight. But we’re pretty sure you’re already proficient in picking and steering this kind of engine since you’re here.

Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings, Taupo, New Zealand

New Zealand is a country well known for its wealth of natural wonders and modern urban areas. A great variety of marine life also lures thousands of explorers around the globe. One of the country’s most appreciated locations is the Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings, which is, as its name also suggests, home to numerous stone carvings found within a tiny emerald-blue water bay. This little piece of heaven is reachable only by boat, so if you’re a boating fan, this place is just what you’ve long been looking for. These captivating rock carvings are situated on Lake Taupo on the North Island, so you’re likely to spot majestic landscapes on your way to the carvings.

Plus, how you explore this place is only up to you. You can go, for example, for a family-friendly riverboat, a romantic sailboat, or a one-person kayak. You can also explore the bay with your own boat; just be sure your engine is well prepared for such an adventure. As someone who steers a watercraft engine, you have to check it each time before heading to your next adventure destination, whether it’s a new or used outboard motor.

Palm Island, Grenadines

Grenada and Saint Vincent form a magnificent island chain famous for their coral reefs, sea turtle conservation, yachting, and numerous beaches. The island is home to immensely luring destinations like Palm Island, which is relatively small but makes for one of the most fantastic attractions here. You rarely find so much comfort and extravagance packed together on such a tiny island. Palm Island, however, isn’t lacking for anything; you can find here everything from luxurious accommodations and spa facilities to swimming pools and even libraries. You also have the chance to taste the freshest and most flavorful seafood you could ever eat.

How to reach this place? By boat, of course. This is, in fact, one of Palm Island’s very lures. You’ll be fascinated by the natural beauty you can admire while boating to your accommodation. You can spot everything from sandpipers and pigeons to doves, blackbirds, and hummingbirds. This boating experience will surely make you realize that these fine things of life matter the most. But be sure you book your accommodation well in advance, as there are only 43 rooms available.

French Riviera, France

Let’s not forget about the one and only French Riviera. This famous location pictured by F. Fitzgerald in his beloved novel Tender is the Night doesn’t cease to be people’s top choice, especially those in a quest for an authentic and complete romantic experience. The French Riviera is packed with numerous rocky inlets, sparkling beaches, pristine isles, glamor, and glitz. We know this Mediterranean coastline is famous for the hedonism aboard majestic billion-dollar yachts, but this doesn’t mean you can’t explore the place by sailboat.

So, where are you heading to?
