Bail of the emperor in all cases, there is no obstacle to release

The court has granted bail to expelled president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Juba League Ismail Chowdhury Samrat in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of illegal acquisition of assets. His lawyer said there was no impediment to his release as there were no more cases against the emperor.

On Wednesday (May 11), Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 Judge Al Asad. Asifuzzaman granted bail after the hearing.

The day was set for the formation of charges in the ACC case. The emperor’s lawyer requested time to adjourn the hearing. The emperor’s lawyer also applied for bail. On the other hand, the ACC lawyer opposed the bail. The court, after hearing both sides, granted bail to the emperor till June 9 on a bond of Tk 10,000 on three conditions . The conditions are that the emperor cannot leave the country without the permission of the court, the passport must be submitted and the health examination report must be submitted on the next due date.

The emperor’s lawyer Afroza Shahnaz Parveen Hira confirmed the matter, saying the court had already granted bail in three of the four cases filed against the emperor. Besides, the six-month sentence given by the mobile court has ended long ago. As there is no other case against him, there is no obstacle for his release.

Meanwhile, on April 11, Dhaka’s Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Tehseen Iftekhar granted him bail in a case under the Ramna Police Narcotics Control Act on a bond of Tk 10,000 after a hearing.

On April 10, Dhaka’s first Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Faisal Atiq bin Quader granted bail in the arms case and Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain granted bail in the money laundering case.

According to the allegations in the ACC case, Ismail Chowdhury was accused of acquiring assets worth Tk 2,94,60,006. ACC Deputy Director filed the case against him on November 12, 2019. Jahangir Alam. On November 26, 2020, the investigating officer of the case, Jahangir Alam, filed a chargesheet in the court.

On the morning of October 6, 2019, RAB arrested the emperor and his ally Enamul Haque Arman from Chauddagram in Comilla. He was later raided at his Kakrail office around 1.30pm. During this time large quantities of foreign liquor, pistols and rare species of wildlife skins were recovered from inside.

He was later sentenced by a mobile court to six months in prison for possessing wildlife skins. The emperor was taken into custody at about 9:15 pm on the same day
