A road trip is one of the best means of spending quality time with family and friends. If you plan to go on a road trip soon, you have some things to prepare. Proper and adequate planning will make the road trip a terrific one.

One significant plan for anyone that desires to hit the road is to have a checklist. This article will offer the compiled list of 7 essential things to carry before hitting the road.

Personal stuff

Depending on how long you plan to stay on your road trip, you may pack little stuff in your travel bag or backpack. Bring comfortable clothes and footwear, toiletry kit, ear pods, toothpaste and brush, phone, laptop and camera charger, first aid kit, sunglasses, hats or face cap, sunscreen, torchlight, or headlamp, pocketknife, money, and other relevant items.

Besides that, if you plan to enter a neighboring country by road, you need to pack your identity and travel documents. Driver’s license, passport, and other government identity cards are essential.

Vehicle

Going by road requires deciding on which vehicle to go with. There should be a good checklist, whichever vehicle you plan to travel with on your trip.

Starting with valid auto insurance for the vehicle, ensure the insurance is active before hitting the road. Also, travel by car with AC and leather seats to ensure optimum comfort.

Do every necessary check on the vehicle parts such as tires, engine oil, lights, and the like to avoid being stranded on a lonely road. Do not forget an extra tire. Also, if you are going by car on a long road trip that you must have a good car roof rack to carry good number of things alongside you.

There are extra things one can pack. They are jumper cables, DC-AC power inverters, or battery boosters to get sufficient energy throughout your trip.

Entertainment

The sole purpose of a road trip is to have fun. Therefore, you need to pack every means of getting entertained as it pertains to you.

There are things like speakers, travel games, and podcasts (stream-able or downloadable). Travel games such as hot seats or hunts would be an excellent idea when you stop over to camp on your journey.

You may also fish along the road; camping would be more exciting if you come by a lake. So, go with fishing tools.

Snacks, food, and drinks

A trip will not make complete sense without providing adequate food, snacks, and drinks. Depending on the number of people going, the length of the journey, and food choice, you need to pack what individual can take. Confirm if anyone is allergic to anything before packing arranging food.

BBQ is another thing one can plan for on a road trip. Get the necessary grilling equipment and supplies for a tasty BBQ. Take an icemaker to access cold drinks or water, especially on a sweltering day.

Checklist; water bottle, bottled water, pre-made sandwiches or pasta salad in cooler, paper plates, soap, paper towel for cleaning messes, and cutlery.

If you go with children, get them snacks they can enjoy and fruits.

Shelter and bedding

Another essential thing to plan is sleeping materials. A checklist includes blankets, travel pillows, travel beds, foldable chairs, and tables or picnic mats. If one is expecting rain, there is a need for waterproof items.

The backpack is also vital if you plan to hunt. Invest in a traveler’s backpack that has compartments.

Map and compass

Navigating around can be much easier if one goes on a trip with a map, compass, or other items. Besides having a map on mobile devices, it is advisable to go on the journey with an accurate map.

If you have a dead battery and cannot charge your mobile devices, falling back on an actual map will relieve you.

In addition, you may decide to check out a place you did not plan from home; that is when you will appreciate having a map with you.

What if you find yourself in an unknown place and lose internet connection on your phone? A map will be your savior at that point.

Do not hit the road without having a map and compass in your vehicle. Learn them before embarking on your journey if you do not know how to use them already.
